Password reset Windows 10 Microsoft Account

    Winver 21H2 19044.1766

I have a Windows 10 laptop computer. Can't remember the password. I am almost certain it is a Microsoft account profile and not a local account. It is asking me for a pin, fingerprint or password key and I've tried them all except the fingerprint which I didn't setup and I don't have a fingerprint reader so I am not sure why that's an option. I followed this Reset Password of User Account in Windows 10 and reset my Microsoft password account online but that didn't allow me to log into my laptop. When I am inside my Microsoft account online on a different computer I can see my laptop is linked to my Microsoft account and I can GPS locate it and things like that. But I don't see a way to reset the login password of that laptop if there is a separate way from my Microsoft login.

Any ideas what I can try next?

    I also had a similar problem...twice.

First time I was told to get into my E-mail account and change the PIN there. Luckily I had another PC available so I get it done.
Second time I was told to write my password for my Microsoft account. Luckily I was able to remember that.

So, there is different scenarios that could appear. And you don't know which.

Have you checked your E-mail if there happen to be a post there from Microsoft that could make you able to change your password?

May you also could find something here.

    Also heard that:
"If you had a phone number registered with your Microsoft account, you can get a code texted to you to verify and unlock with."
It seem to be described here:

Thanks for your response. I am able to get into my Microsoft account. I can change my Microsoft account password and I can access my Microsoft account that shows that my laptop is linked to that account. But apart from that I don't see any other option to reset a PIN or password once I am inside my Microsoft account. Changing my Microsoft account password doesn't seem to reflect my login password to my computer.

I guess I need to confirm if my profile on my computer is a Microsoft account or local account. Is there a way to tell?

Turn On or Off Microsoft Account Two-step Verification

You can have a look at Option two in the link.
    At:
1 Go to your Microsoft account security page online at Microsoft, and sign in to verify.
2 Click/tap on the Advanced security options

...there may could be some peculiar possibilities.

Hi, yes, from the searchable Tutorial section (do have a look - it's huge...professional..) I found for you
How to Tell if Local Account or Microsoft Account in Windows 10

    and you already know of:
Reset Password of User Account in Windows 10
which includes options to reset the password of a local account.

There are more related tutorials linked after the main text.

Note that the user password always remains relevant and significant even if you choose to use passwordless login, a PIN, or fingerprint etc.

Start your own thread, lot's of people unsubscribe from old posts so it may never get seen.

And meanwhile, have you considered the tutorials I posted?

And when you do post your new thread, please give history indicating how you ended up in your situation, together with anything you've tried. (Saying e.g. 'I've tried everything' won't help posters- please be specific- thanks).
