Snip and Sketch new snip opens with MS msg can't open this type file

    Windows 10
    Version 22H2
    Build 19045.4529
    Snip and Sketch 10.2008.3001.0

Using Snip and Sketch happily for a few years. Recently however, when I right click on the Icon and choose "Take a new Snip", the app darkens the screen and immediately pastes a small Microsoft Window over part of the image. The message says
Snip and Sketch new snip opens with MS msg can't open this type file-snip-sketch-message.png. When I ignore this message and take the screen snip the message is included if it is inside the snip. I don't know what happened - nor do I know how to fix it. I tried going to the Windows Store and updating Snip and Sketch. It said it was downloading but eventually said something went wrong on their end and no download was made. The only setting I have activated is for the snip to auto copy to clip board - which it does.

Accustomed to using this app regularly. Any suggestions? If not, is there another similar app I might try?

    Thanks very much.

Microsoft has removed support for Snip and Sketch and is not available in Windows 11.

Open a Command Prompt as Admin
Then type following command and press Enter key:

    Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.ScreenSketch | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

Snip and Sketch should now be working.

    Or use Snipping Tool

Thanks. Perhaps I'm not entering the command properly? I'm going to Admin Command Prompt and then going our of windows and back to c:\. I enter the command and get - command not recognized - not an operable file etc.
    Any suggestions?

OK, press the Windows key +X and choose PowerShell (Admin) Copy the command and right click it into Power Shell and it should populate then press Enter.

Thanks again...but...When I press the windows key and the x, I get a long list of commands but Power Shell is not there. Command prompt is there but not power shell. If there's a way to to fix this, please let me know.
    Thanks

Try selecting the C: partition in an explorer window, and then clicking the 'file' menu - should show options including powershell.

It brought me to a command prompt. It said: Try the new cross-platform PowerShell https://aka.ms/pscore6

I wasn't sure this was what I wanted so I didn't go ahead. Should I?

Go to Search and type Powershell.exe Right click the results and Run as Administrator you do not need a newer version of Powershell

If this doesn't work it is because Microsoft has pulled this app and no longer supports it
Or you can go to the Microsoft Store, and download the Snipping tool

Thanks very much for following up on all my questions. I'll live with the snipping tool.
