SSD is Slow to Open Certain Folders

Hi, I purchase a new SSD (Samsung EVO 850) a few months ago.

To open certain folders, it takes a very long time to open a folder, considering it's an SSD drive. It doesn't do with the majority of folders (even folders that contain a lot more data).

I used Samsung Magician. I enabled Rapid Mode. And, I have optimized the drive.

Yet, it's slow to open one certain folder I use all the time. It takes about 10 seconds or more for the folder to open.

What would the cause of this be?

Lots of small files or the folder is corrupted

It doesn't have a lot of small files.

If the folder is corrupted, how do I tell?

What is the folder. What is it's full path? What does it contain? (file size and type)

Has this folder always been slow to open or is it only since you got the SSD? Was the SSD always slow to open it is this something recent?

The folder is just a typical Windows folder. Now that I'm paying attention to it, I notice that certain folders ( few of them) will open slow while most of them is near instantaneous since I have an SSD.

The full path for one of the slow ones is C:\Users\username\Desktop 4\My Computer System.

The other folders in the folder that the above is in, opens instantaneously. Some of the folders have even more files and a lot of small files. It's weird.

I don't know if it's always been like that but I don't think so. It seems like a recent phenomenon. The SSD I have is a 850 EVO 512 gigs.

I checked Samsung magician and CrystalDisk, and they both say that the SSD is in good condition.

When I made a new folder with the same name and put all the contents into it, it was still slow. But I just tried something else. I made a new folder with a different name and put all the contents into it and now the folder opens instantaneously.

I notice (very) few other folders do the same thing. Do you think it's a hardware issue or a software issue?

PS. Actually I noticed that it might have started happening after I installed a new graphics card (EVGA 1080). With the new graphics card, I notice artifacts here and there. Little artifacts. Nothing major. Would this possibly be the reason?

Run dxdiag from the run box, no need to check for digitally signed driers if asked. Save all then post just the first part of the Display Device info. Keep it in a code box and it will stay nicely lined up. See if anything useful shows there. For instance mine looks like this:

    Hi, Ztruker,

I didn't directly reply to your message so I don't know if you noticed my reply with the code box.

    Ztruker said:
Run dxdiag from the run box, no need to check for digitally signed driers if asked. Save all then post just the first part of the Display Device info. Keep it in a code box and it will stay nicely lined up. See if anything useful shows there. For instance mine looks like this:

    Code:

You have Nvidia drive 398.82 dated 7/29/18. The Nvidia web site shows 399.07 dated 2018.8.27 is available. Use DDU to uninstall the current driver then install the latest 399.07 version, as follows:

Remove and install latest Nvidia drivers:

I suggest completely uninstalling the Nvidia display drivers using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) from WagnardMobile here: Official Download Here. Do this in Safe Mode. Then get the latest driver for your Nvidia card here: NVIDIA Driver Downloads

Then do a custom install of only the NVidia graphics driver and the PhysX driver.

See if that gets rid of the problem.
