I don't set my folders for specific types but when needed create a descriptive name.

Well if you read my original post that is exactly what the set up was; he had named the folder "camera image dump".
that folder is set to show as pictures [large thumbnails] to have when browsing a quick look/oversight what is what.
this folder name was overwritten by the Windows update to "pictures".
Consequently client, understandably panicked not finding anywhere his folder.

The bottom line is, if the user sets a specific setting and configuration the Orwellian approach off an MS enforced Windows update* to reconfigure everything and set it the way they like it is not acceptable
Why bother with customization options and features in the first place when everything is reset again!

*you know that Windows update circumvents any firewall. I tested it and you can set your system to block all in an outbound traffic but any Windows activity be it telemetry or update is not affected, unless of course you "pull the plug".

Microsoft has always known far better than we do what is best for us.

Avoid this problem by disabling updates.

    I run 1809.
    No updates.
    No problems.
    No Microsoft authoritarian arrogance.
    No Microsoft presence at all.
