Hi, I have found Windows Ten Forums have helped me a couple of times already, so thank you to those who had already asked the question and to those who answered so clearly. The latest one helped me remove the News and Interests in the task bar. I moved it to the bottom edge as advised, and it worked. I normally have the task bar on the left, so returned it after a restart and the News and Interests has not returned - great!! I will be needing help from time to time as windows has alluded me, how it all works I mean. I have worked mostly on 8-bit micros since about '79 and used assembler at first, then C when it became available to me. I enjoyed the challenge of coding up each project, but could also trade off hardware costs for more code, as required. So you see the computer was a tool I used rather than understood. I have picked up a few things over the years, but never dug deep into Windows or the PC hardware - other than using the serial port. I have retired recently and have started to acquire old test equipment to indulge my interest in electronic circuits, and radio in particular, via amateur radio kits mostly. The laptop is still my main tool for finding and recording information. It's internal D: drive is great for storing all the equipment manuals and component datasheets. I update a memory stick with it from time to time. I just want to end by saying I am so pleased that this web site exists and it is so helpful, much moreso than the MS Help - but then that is why you created it! Tenforums.com is now my first port of call for any Windows-related issues. Thank you!

Hi all. I registered more out of curiosity than anything else, but that doesn't necessarily mean I might not learn something here. I may have registered once before, I don't remember when, but I lost my sign in credentials, so I'm starting over I guess.

Even though I have used computers since the mid 90s, I've never gained enough proficiency to consider myself as an advanced computer user. First used MSDOS 6.1, up to Windows 11, but I've backtracked to Windows 10 several times and where I am again. Windows 11 seems almost like a sandbox for Microsoft to play or tinker. I just feel more comfortable with Windows 10.

I've been retired for over a decade. I don't have an exciting work history, so that's enough of that. Thanks to whomever for keeping this place open and letting me in.

    Welcome back

It's so good to hear from you. I'm in almost the same situation as you. My first experience with Windows was on a TRS80. What a trip. I loved it from the beginning. I was given the task of teaching the executive secretaries how to use a spreadsheet. They were so uptight being afraid of losing their jobs if they did't become proficient in it's use. I love working with people so I thanked God everyday for this task, plus I got to learn how to become somewhat efficient at all the packages available to me.

    Again, welcome back.
