It's still faster than my older USB 3.0 drive.

These are a couple of nice videos describing different ways you can use incrementals in Macrium Reflect Home. This is same for V7 as well.

On balance, I think I prefer (1) as the original full backup image is never altered.

I don't normally do incrementals or use MR for file and folder backups but as a test I set one up using option 2 over a year ago and It's been running daily on a schedule without problems ever since.

Lost some files so I pulled out one of old HDDs with MR backups and successfully restored 3 year old backup.
